GUNS, DOGS & MASON JARS [limited edition T]

Upon moving to the country [6 years ago] there’s just some things one collects quickly that wouldn’t have made much sense to my suburban upbringing & later, my city dwelling phase.

I’ve got neighbors who have had 18 bear dogs! A past Our Numinous Nature podcast guest, Master of Foxhounds Rita Mae Brown, has 40+ foxhounds; a woman we know shares her bed with 3 gargantuan Irish wolfhounds; many country folks with a bit of acreage have mixed packs of 4-5-6 dogs roaming their property. I’ve got friends & acquaintances [a handful of which have been on the podcast] with dozens if not triple digits of firearms, real deal collectors & investors of vintage hunting guns, WW2 rifles, & old frontier or Civil War-era muzzleloaders. I personally found it interesting how fast one needs half a dozen guns for their varied culinary ends: a large caliber rifle for deer, a small caliber rifle for squirrel, a big shotgun for turkey, a small shotgun for rabbit, a muzzleloader for the early season opportunities, a pistol for the trapline. And when it comes to mason jars…well if you grow your own food in abundance or tincture your own herbal medicine or bottle your own honey, you’re going to need jars in incredible numbers! I’ve met someone out here who told me her husband died in the 1990’s and their family is still eating food he canned all those many years ago! How profound is that…?!
