"Seasonal fare for an eastern black bear." Since the drawing of this illustration, we've had two black bear visitations just a few feet from our cabin door! Aiming at the style of an old wildlife book in your grandparents' attic, I chose a handful of the American black bear's favorite seasonal foods within an eastern deciduous habitat: human shared edibles such as serviceberry, sassafras leaves, wild grapes and the highly revered pawpaw, to roadkill carrion, ants under logs and yellow jacket nests dug up out of the ground.
