Growing up in the suburbs, one of my best childhood friends, a few houses down in the cal-de-sac where we’d play war, roller hockey, & all-around raise boyhood Caine with pyrotechnics & pranks, would never be around to play on winter weekends. He was out waterfowl or small game hunting with his father & when he’d tell me he ate squirrels, well that was just about the craziest thing I’d ever heard… All these years later, coming to hunting as an adult, squirrel has become about as normal as chicken to us, though far more revered. The wild squirrel is no kin in temperament to the domestic suburban variety & should not be underestimated. They’re a challenge & they’re shockingly delicious! May your table be blessed with one of nature's finest meats!
